Crystal River is located in the province of Chiriquí, Panama, within a nature reserve situated at over 1,700 meters (5,577 feet) above sea level, in the mountainous region near Volcán Barú National Park, most likely around Cerro Punta or Guadalupe, in the district of Tierras Altas.
This reserve is well known for its rich biodiversity and cool climate, making it an ideal destination for birdwatching. Over 150 bird species have been identified in the area, including tanagers, redstarts, and trogons, which are among the most commonly seen. However, the biggest attraction for visitors is the Resplendent Quetzal, a bird of striking colors that nests in the region between December and April.
